What the tour includes:

Day 1

The tour will start with a morning departure from Winnipeg by motorcoach heading east toward Ontario.  We will stop in Dryden, Ontario to visit their community museum and enjoy lunch here before continuing east to enjoy more views of the changing foliage.  Arriving in Thunder Bay, we have a planned visit to see the former Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker museum ship the Alexander Henry moored on the Lake Superior harbourfront.  After the tour, we will check into the classic railway hotel, The Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel (those that book early will get rooms overlooking Lake Superior to enjoy), have dinner, and then enjoy the hotel’s pool or hot tub or nearby attractions and overnight here.

Day 2

Today, after breakfast at our hotel, we will enjoy the fall colours around the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior from the windows of our motorcoach and a few stops along the way.  Arriving Sault Ste Marie, we will visit the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre to view their large collection of aircraft and WILDFIRES 3-D presentation in their interactive theatre on fighting forest fires from the air.   After dinner we will check in to Sault Ste. Marie's Sleep Inn, where you can walk across the street to see the Emantinger- Clergue (houses) National Historic Site or the Algoma Art Gallery. Or stay in your room and watch the Winnipeg news on the TV (available here!) and overnight here.

Day 3

The inclusive hotel breakfast will be enjoyed early this morning so we have time to see Canada’s newest train station, here in Sault Ste. Marie, before boarding the Agawa Canyon Tour train for its morning departure.  This popular scenic 114 mile day trip features fantastic views from high trestles, lakes and rugged wilderness terrain is rated as one of the top rail journeys in North America.  We will enjoy lunch and stretch our legs in the scenic Agawa Canyon Park where Group of Seven paintings seem to come alive in every direction you look.  Returning to Sault Ste Marie, to again enjoy the fall colours from this train, we will enjoy dinner and transfer by bus to Sudbury and overnight here at our hotel that overlooks the city skyline.

Day 4

After breakfast at our hotel the City of Sudbury will be ours to explore beginning with a visit to Dynamic Earth to see the Big Nickel and learn about the community’s history.   Among other experiences, during our full day of touring here,  we will also plan to tour the historic Sudbury Community Arena, the private collection of R&R Classic Cars restored vehicles and the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and Heritage Centre. We will enjoy a home cooked dinner near the museum at the M & R Grill before again overnighting in downtown Sudbury.

Day 6

After breakfast at the hotel we will enjoy an all daylight train trip on VIA Rail’s unique Rail Diesel Car. This lesser known and equally scenic service from Sudbury, travels the route of the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline through remote and pristine Canadian Shield wilderness (passing Onaping Falls, fur trade river routes; isolated lakes and more) for our guests to enjoy the fall colours on the last service of this type in Canada.   Arriving in White River, at the same platform where a bear named Winnipeg (Winnie for short)  was purchased by Captain Harry Colebourn, we will visit their museum and learn about the origins of this famous bear cub before enjoying a fall supper prepared by the community’s seniors and overnight here.

Day 7

Today will be our final travel day more great views around the North Shore of Lake Superior and Northwestern Ontario. We also plan to stop to see the stunning Terry Fox Monument that overlooks Thunder Bay & Lake Superior.  Our westward journey today will end back in Winnipeg, in the late afternoon, with great memories and lots of pictures to show family and friends.
