Roundtrip from Toronto - 5 days - 4 nights group tour.

Sunday September 29 to Thursday October 3, 2024

As seen on TVO’s Tripping Train 185 book now to experience this 5 day 4 nights guided package to enjoy the fall colours of Northern Ontario, on both the rail journey from Toronto to Sudbury and Train #185 (Sudbury – White River) roundtrip with all the details looked after so you can travel roundtrip from Toronto, Ontario during the fall foliage season.

Rail Travel Tours can take you to view the fantastic scenery and the fall colours of Ontario’s Superior region with great heritage experiences on a tour offered nowhere else. We travel roundtrip from Toronto through the Muskoka region and into the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield starting by train (with access to the dome car) to Sudbury and overnight. The next day here in Sudbury we explore world class attractions such as Dynamic Earth and the Northern Ontario Railroad Museum and again overnight here. The following day we board TRAIN #185 or VIA's SUDBURY - WHITE RIVER isolated rail service to travel through the picturesque and rugged Superior Region to White River, where past tours have seen moose in the swamps, bears in the woods and forests full of colour. The trip back to Toronto by motor coach offers an opportunity to visit to more heritage experiences and view some added fall colours.  Bring your camera and a sense of adventure as the fall colours and northern hospitality await you.

What the tour includes:

DAY 1 – All Aboard as we head north from Toronto by train

Morning meet & greet at Toronto’s Union Station (at 8:15 am) to meet your guide(s) and fellow travellers and drop off luggage destined for the Baggage Car that will be claimed at our hotel later today.  After boarding the train, for our journey North to Sudbury, we will enjoy the fall scenery from the large windows from our assigned seats in our Coach or dome car.   The train is a great way to see the landscape of the Muskoka area and Sudbury Basin as your guides point out the highlights.   Arriving in Sudbury we will transfer by motor coach to enjoy a group welcome supper here before transferring to our hotel. Overnight downtown Sudbury. Meals included today: Dinner.

DAY 2 – A full day exploring Sudbury

Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel before our planned visit Sudbury’s Science North with its great displays and wildlife area.  There will be time here to purchase and enjoy lunch here with views of Lake Ramsey. Next, we will visit other heritage attractions including a planned visit to R & R Restored Classic Cars and the Northern Ontario Railway Museum in the northern most tip of Sudbury called Capreol. After our day here we know you have worked up an appetite so as part of the tour the guests will enjoy a home cooked dinner here in Capreol before returning to our hotel that overlooks the city Skyline.  Overnight Sudbury. Meals included today: Breakfast, Dinner.

DAY 3 – Enjoy more fall colours from Canada’s last Rail Diesel Car train.

We have a full travel day that begins with enjoying breakfast at the hotel.  Today we will travel on VIA’s Rail 's TRAIN 185 Sudbury - White River Rail Diesel Car service on the CPR mainline to White River through the rugged “Superior” Region of Ontario.  Fantastic views of pristine wilderness and small communities that are only accessible by the train we will travel on. Places like Biscotasing where British citizen Archibald Stanley lived as he transformed into the noted naturalist known as Grey Owl. If on time there may be time for the guests to stretch their legs on the platform in the railway divisional point of Chapleau and view the large preserved steam locomotive on display next to the station   After arriving in White River we have a planned community organized “Fall/Potluck Supper” meal (included) provided by the Seniors of the White River Harmony Club.  We will learn about the heritage of this community and their most famous former resident a bear cub named after a World War 1 soldier's home town of "Winnipeg" (later immortalized by an author of children's stories) by visiting the White River Museum.  Overnight in White River. Meals included today: Breakfast, Dinner.

DAY 4 – Eastbound to again enjoy the scenery from Canada’s last Rail Diesel Car train.

Enjoy some light breakfast on the train as we again travel on TRAIN 186 or VIA Rail’s eastbound Rail Diesel Car remote service to Sudbury again viewing the scenery among the many lakes.  Most guests sit on the opposite side of the train for the trip back to Sudbury. A highlight will be watching for wildlife as the train travels along the South border of the Chapleau Crown Game Preserve. The train will again be making stops at many of the isolated communities and properties along the route so we might get to meet some of the locals who rely on this train. Arriving back in Sudbury you will hopefully share past guests’ thoughts that this train may be most scenic and best kept secret rail journey in Northern Ontario.   Free time late this afternoon and evening to enjoy downtown Sudbury, that has many restaurant options for dinner on your own or eat in the hotel restaurant or order in and relax in your hotel room is another option.  Overnight in Sudbury. Meals included today: Breakfast.

DAY 5 – More fall colours views as we return to Toronto

Enjoy Breakfast at the hotel before our morning departure from Sudbury by motor coach.  This will provide us the opportunity to enjoy some more heritage experiences, and of course the fall colours, during our southbound trip.  Lunch will also be enjoyed by those on the tour today at a special visit to a heritage attraction before we continue travelling south.  We are scheduled to arrive late this afternoon back in downtown Toronto for the end of this relaxing and scenic rail tour experience offered nowhere else.
