We will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Canada’s History Society on this tour that only has 2 seats left. (Guests have been waiting since 2020 to experience this tour).

Experience two of Canada’s most scenic rail journey’s aboard VIA’ Rail's CANADIAN and possibly the most scenic mountain rail trip in Canada the JASPER –PRINCE RUPERT train.  Journey round trip by rail from Winnipeg across the Prairies past the Canadian Rocky and Coastal mountains, in daylight, to Northern BC and shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. There will be dome car(s) on all the trains the group will travel on.  Overnight in hotels and enjoy Jasper, Prince Rupert and Prince George as part of this deluxe tour. The package is inclusive of day tours such as the Maligne Lake boat tour in Jasper National Park and attractions such as the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site and other heritage experiences.  Travel past the site of the last spike on the Grand Trunk Pacific and learn about this railway (now part of CN) and its President Charles Melville Hayes who envisioned the route.  The tour price also includes all admission at attractions and tours, train travel in Sleeping Car class, hotels, all meals on the trains and more.

Starting this evening from Winnipeg’s downtown Union Station those on tour will first visit check in with their tour guide and receive a name tag and tour information kit.  Your larger luggage will also be checked-in at the station so it can be transferred right to your hotel room when we arrive in Jasper in a few days. When instructed to do so we will board VIA’s westbound train The Canadian in Touring - sleeping car class and locate your sleeping car space. After that, there plans to be a Bon Voyage reception. Perhaps we will be able to enjoy a prairie sunset from one of the train`s many dome cars before overnighting on the train.

This morning travel through the western part of the Province of Saskatchewan and into Alberta. Stretch your legs on the platform in the Provincial Capital of Edmonton - where a Panorama Dome Car will be added to our train traveling to Jasper.  Breakfast and lunch and dinner will be enjoyed on the train and again overnight in your sleeping car accommodation.


Awake to the Canadian Rockies and scheduled arrival into Jasper and time to get your bearings while we have some time to explore this picturesque mountain town.  The highlight of the day will be our visit outside the town to experience natural beauty of Jasper National Park by a planned tour of the picturesque National Park including a visit to the Maligne Canyon.  Tonight there will be some more free time to explore more of he town and overnight here in Jasper.  


Sleep in or take some time to do some shopping here in Jasper before our mid day boarding and departure of  VIA RAIL’s Jasper- Prince George train for Day 1 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the Canadian Rockies of Alberta and British Columbia.  The train plans to have a PANORAMA DOME CAR (with windows the length of the car stretching from the ceiling to your seat side!) where we will have our assigned seats and a Park observation car with a wrap around lounge area at the train's end and an upper dome area with 360 degree views and lounge areas in the lower part of the car for viewing of the countryside the train travels through in great comfort. the route will take us west of Jasper passed some stunning mountain ranges as we cross the border into BC and watch for the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies Mount Robson and into the Rocky Mountain trench.  Our guide will keep you informed of when to have your camera ready for that memorable photograph.  There will be dinner on the train (served at your seat) for those on the tour and over night at our partner hotel in Prince George at the end of the day.

Awake this morning to have included breakfast at our hotel before we transfer to the Prince George train station and board VIA’ RAILS Jasper (or for today the)  Prince George- Prince Rupert train for Day 2 to enjoy day 2 of this (daylight only) train again in our groups assigned seats in the planned PANORAMA dome car as part of the train. Rail Travel Tours guests will enjoy lunch and dinner on the train.  Outside the dome car’s windows (and all of the train's windows for that matter)  view B.C’s Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River that the train route travels alongside (watch for seals and otters in the river and Bald Eagles above) for possibly the most scenic views in Canada from a passenger train.  The vegetation gets more lush and the river will get wider and wider before we see views of the Pacific Ocean from the train as we arrive in Prince Rupert BC on the Pacific Coast and transfer to the hotel (included in the tour) here where we will overnight.

Today will be full day on the West Coast and our time here will be spent enjoying local history; First Nation’s culture, the wildlife of Prince Rupert and heritage of the area include a guided tour of the preserved National Historic Site - The North Pacific (former salmon) Cannery and Fishing Village in nearby Port Edward. In Prince Rupert itself we will visit the Museum of Northern BC to learn about the Haida people and history of the area.  We will also enjoy a group visit of the Prince Rupert Port Interpretive Centre followed by free time to explore the shops and restaurants in what is called the COWS BAY area of Prince Rupert.  Those on the tour will also enjoy a special dinner at a great location overlooking the Pacific Ocean and after again overnight at our Prince Rupert Hotel (that even has a outdoor hot tub overlooking the Pacific Ocean!).

This morning transfer to the PR train station to board the train again on VIA Rail’s Prince Rupert- Prince George train for Day 3 of this scenic rail journey for the group to experience the Eastward journey on this (daylight only) train. Rail Travel Tours guests will enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner on the train. Outside the trains windows view B.C’s Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River. Photograph the Hudson Bay Mountain and Kathleen Glacier. After again enjoying the awesome scenery of Northern BC overnight at our Prince George hotel.

Awake to again enjoy breakfast at the hotel before the short transfer to the Prince George station and board the train to enjoy Day 4 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the ranch country of Northern BC, we enjoy, later in the day, lunch on the train, and the route will pass – Mount Robson - the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies before returning to Jasper Alberta to again overnight here.

Always a favorite with past guests our day in the Rockies will be enjoyed by travelling south by bus on the renowned Icefields Parkway.  We will visit the Icefields Interpretive Centre and area with its stunning views and .  After this we make our way back to town and stop at Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls before arriving back in Jasper after a memorable day.   Overnight at our Jasper Hotel – but before you head to bed you can soak in the rooftop hot tub as the sun sets behind the Canadian Rockies.  

DAY 10
Today we start with some last minute souvenir shopping along Connaught Avenue before boarding the scheduled eastbound Canadian to again view the Rockies in daylight, as well onboard the train guests will enjoy both lunch and  dinner prepared by the Rail VIA chefs and overnight on  the train in your assigned accommodation.

DAY 11

Awake to scenic views in the province of Saskatchewan’s and Manitoba including the scenic Qu'Appelle Valley and crossing of the Uno Trestle among others while enjoying Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on the train.  This evening you will arrive back in downtown Winnipeg to end what past guests have told us - "This was the most scenic Canadian rail journey we ever took part in" and our guests were so thrilled how well Rail Travel Tours took care of them.
