Rail Travel Tours along with Canada’s National History will celebrate Manitoba 150th Anniversary of joining Confederation by experiencing Canada Day in Churchill on this guided roundtrip tour from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Travelling by rail to Churchill, MB those on this package will experience a variety of Manitoba's scenery, heritage of Northern Manitoba, Canada Day in Churchill along with great wildlife viewing. Your overnights on this 7 day 6 night tour will be in both sleeping accommodation on the train and 2 nights in Churchill’s only all amenity hotel. The tour also includes heritage tours of the town and area, Beluga Whale Watching & Canada Day events; Parks Canada restored train station Interpretive Centre, Cape Merry Historic Site, and additional heritage experiences. Package includes hotel stays, rail trips, transfers, heritage attractions and presentations, most meals, detailed tour information kit and more as detailed below;
WHAT THE TOUR INCLUDES:
Mid-morning, we will meet at Winnipeg's Union Station to check our bags prior to boarding and our scheduled departure from Winnipeg on VIA’s train WINNIPEG TO CHURCHILL TRAIN that is also locally known as the HUDSON BAY. Onboard our guests will enjoy a Bon Voyage reception and enjoy the passing scenery of the prairies, Riding Mountain National Park, stunning prairie vistas and also travel thought the aptly named communities like Grandview, Mb. Guest will enjoy lunch and dinner onboard the train and overnight in the sleeping car accommodation you booked as part of the tour.
This morning as the chef in the dining car prepares breakfast for the passengers you awake to different views of boreal forests continuing north through isolated communities only accessible by this train. Make sure you have your camera ready as the train passes bird sanctuaries and large lakes and vast forests along the way. There will also be heritage discussions and presentations onboard the train for the group. Today, if the train arrives on time, guests may have some time to visit to Thompson, Manitoba. Overnight on the train.
This morning the view outside your window on the train has changed again as you pass the Tundra barren areas as you get closer to the shores of Hudson Bay. Arrive in Churchill to be greeted by local guides and taken on a tour of the town and Arctic Coastline from the historic Cape Merry (while your luggage will be transferred to our hotel) to learn the heritage of this unique northern community. This afternoon we will enjoy a visit to the Insanitaq Museum with its renowned collection of Inuit Art. This evening a special welcome dinner has been planned for the group to enjoy before those on the tour will enjoy the first overnight at our Churchill hotel.
Canada Day! After enjoying a full breakfast in the hotel this morning, we will enjoy some Canada Day events of Manitoba’s most Northern town. Many of these will be in the park adjacent to our hotel as well as the annual parade; scheduled to go down Kelsey Avenue that will pass right beside our hotel. We are also planning a visit to the restored railway station and Parks Canada Interpretive Centre located here. After a fun Canada Day in Churchill our guests will enjoy dinner as a group to discuss the day’s activities. Guests are welcome to stay up late when it gets a little dark to watch the Fireworks over Hudson Bay and again overnight here.
This morning again enjoy breakfast in the hotel as we have a full day of sights. The highlight today will be the boat tour on the Churchill River looking for the migrating Beluga Whales and walking tour with Parks Canada staff to the (former) Hudson Bay Company Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site. Following this there will be some brief time to enjoy lunch on your own at a location of your choice or do some last souvenir shopping here in Churchill. In the afternoon we have planned a tour, by bus, along the rocky shoreline of Churchill east of town to hopefully see some wildlife and other sights all the way to the former Rocket Range and Churchill Northern Studies Centre. There will be a farewell to Churchill supper this evening prior to boarding and travelling south on VIA’s train (locally known as the HUDSON BAY) in your reserved sleeping car accommodation. Of course, with the long days, you will enjoy more views from the trains dome car. Overnight on the train.
Travel day on the southbound train. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner will be prepared by the VIA Chef and enjoyed on the train. Make sure you have your camera ready as you cross high above the Nelson River among other sights enjoyed from the train's dome car or the windows from your sleeping car space. Overnight on the train.
Awake this morning to the view outside your window of the fertile fields of the Red River valley. Both Breakfast and Lunch will be enjoyed on the train before the train's scheduled late afternoon arrival back in Winnipeg.
