Experience two of Canada's most scenic rail journey's aboard VIA's CANADIAN and possibly the most scenic mountain rail trip in Canada the JASPER - PRINCE RUPERT train. Journey roundtrip by rail from Winnipeg across the Prairies past the Canadian Rocky and Coastal mountains, in daylight, to Northern BC and shoreline of the Pacific Ocean. New for the 2010 departure Panorama Coach dome car (featuring wraparound windows) will be added to the train in Edmonton for the trip to Jasper for Sleeping Car Touring Class passengers. Overnight in hotels and enjoy Jasper, Prince Rupert and Prince George as part of this deluxe tour. Visit many attractions such as the Wildlife Museum in Jasper to the North Pacific Cannery National Historic Site and other learning experiences. The tour price includes all admission at attractions and tours, train travel in deluxe class, hotels, meals on the CANADIAN prepared by VIA Chefs and more.
WHAT THE TOUR INCLUDES:
- DAY 1 - THURSDAY MAY 20, 2010 This morning those departing from Winnipeg will meet their guide and tour the volunteer operated Winnipeg Railway Museum located right inside the station. This large museum features the first steam locomotive on the Canadian Prairies called "The Countess of Dufferin" and numerous other pieces of rail equipment and displays related to the regions rail heritage. Departing Winnipeg the train travels through western Manitoba and into the Province of Saskatchewan. Reading along with the route guide we provide for you, with your camera in hand, you will be ready to photograph the meandering Assiniboine River as part of the Qu'Appelle Valley system from the Uno Trestle. See a grand prairie sunset over dinner before the attendant makes up your bed in Silver & Blue Sleeping Car Class and you retire for the night as the train continues west.
- DAY 2 - FRIDAY MAY 21, 2010 This morning travel through Alberta and travel through the Provincial Capital of Edmonton. Breakfast and lunch will be enjoyed on the train. Outside the train today you can view the Alberta foothills before they grow into the majestic Canadian Rockies in daylight. Arrival in Jasper, AB and explore this mountain town with a walking tour given by the Friends of Jasper National Park and overnight at a Jasper Hotel.
- DAY 3 - SATURDAY MAY 22, 2010 You will enjoy a tour, starting from the door of your hotel, of the Icefield Parkway that is considered one of the most scenic drives on earth. On this tour the group will enjoy stops to view Athabasca, Sunwapta and Tangle Falls. At the Columbia Icefield, from spring, through summer and into the fall, Brewster's Ice Explorer Tour of the Columbia Glacier is included. Specially designed and built vehicles allow you to ride right on the Athabasca Glacier itself. Following your day trip enjoying the Icefield Parkway the will be returned to the entrance of our hotel.
- DAY 4 - SUNDAY MAY 23, 2010 Board VIA's Jasper- Prince Rupert train for Day 1 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the Canadian Rockies of Alberta and British Columbia. The Skyline Dome car, featured on this train, is one of the best rail passenger cars in Canada for viewing the area's scenery. It has an upper dome area with 360 degree views and lounge areas in the lower part of the car for viewing of the countryside the train travels through in great comfort. Our guide will keep you informed of when to have your camera ready for that memorable photograph. Overnight at a Prince George hotel.
- DAY 5 - MONDAY MAY 24, 2010 Board VIA'S Jasper- Prince Rupert train for Day 2 to enjoy day 2 of this (daylight only) train. Outside the dome car's windows view B.C's Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River that the tracks travel alongside (watch for seals and otters in the river) before arriving Prince Rupert BC on the Pacific Coast and spend the night here at a hotel overlooking the Prince Rupert harbor.
- DAY 6 - TUESDAY MAY 25, 2010 The following day will be spent enjoying local history; First Nation's culture and wildlife of Prince Rupert and include a guided tour of the preserved National Historic Site North Pacific (former salmon) Cannery and Fishing Village, Museum of Northern BC to learn about the Haida people and again overnight at a Prince Rupert Hotel.
- DAY 7 - WEDNESDAY MAY 26, 2010 Board VIA'S Prince Rupert- Jasper train for Day 3 of this scenic rail journey for the group to experience the Eastward journey on this (daylight only) train. Outside the trains windows view B.C's Coastal Mountains and the amazing Skeena River. Photograph the Hudson Bay Mountain and Kathleen Glacier. Overnight at a Prince George hotel.
- DAY 8 - THURSDAY MAY 27, 2010 Board VIA's Prince Rupert- Jasper train and enjoy Day 4 of this (daylight only) trip viewing the ranch country of Northern BC and highest mountain - Mount Robson - in the Canadian Rockies before returning to Jasper Alberta. Overnight at a Jasper Hotel. BR>
- DAY 9 - FRIDAY MAY 28, 2010 Enjoyed by the group in Jasper will be a guided walking tour of the Maligne Canyon followed by a picnic lunch with great views of the Canadian Rockies and a ride on the Jasper Tramway. Overnight at a Jasper Hotel - but before you head to bed sit in the rooftop hot tub as the sun sets behind the Canadian Rockies.
- DAY 10 - SATURDAY MAY 29, 2010 The following day, shop the boutiques along Connaught Ave before boarding the eastbound Canadian to again view the Rockies in daylight as well as enjoy dinner onboard the train and sleep away the night on the train.
- DAY 11 - SUNDAY MAY 30, 2010 Awake to views of the Province of Saskatchewan's and the prairies and rolling landscape of Manitoba while enjoying Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on the train. Later today the train returns to Portage la Prairie and in Winnipeg to end one of the most scenic Canadian rail journeys you may ever take part in.
