Rail Travel Tours can take you to view the fantastic scenery and the fall colours of the rugged and picturesque region of Western Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan on a tour offered no where else. Travel on VIA's CANADIAN, comfortably past the prairie valleys and rolling hills while enjoying the views from the trains dome car. Arriving in what is called Saskatchewan's "Smallest City" of Melville to enjoy a couple days of the fall colours of the Qu'Appelle Valley, and attractions in the communities of Fort Qu'Appelle, Esterhazy and more before returning to Winnipeg by rail after a restful tour.

WHAT THE TOUR INCLUDES:
  • DAY 1 - THURSDAY Morning meet and greet at Winnipeg's Union Station and tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum before departing on VIA's westbound CANADIAN. A short time after departing Winnipeg stop and welcome aboard further guests from Portage la Prairie. Travel through Western Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan enjoying the views of the prairies fall harvest and the untouched scenery near Firdale that was once the shoreline of the glacial lake Agassiz. Get your camera ready for the 35 mile stretch where the tracks travel past the winding Assiniboine Valley, part of the Qu'Appelle Valley system, and the great views from the impressive Uno Trestle. Arrive in Melville to enjoy a welcome presentation and overnight here.

  • DAY 2 - FRIDAY The following morning enjoy a full breakfast at the hotel and the group will enjoy a full day tour by bus of the fall colours of the western portion of the Qu'Appelle Valley. While enjoying the views of the fall colours the group will also visit the Saskatchewan Fish Culture Station that is responsible for stocking all the lakes in the province with a variety of species and their staff will guide us through the entire facility located on the side of the valley. There will also be a visit to the historic community of Fort Qu'Appelle and a visit to the Sacred heart Cathedral in Lebret. After enjoying the scenery of the valley the group will return Melville to visit the Railway Museum and free time before you again overnight in Melville.

  • DAY 3 - SATURDAY The following day the hotel restaurant will again be serving a full breakfast for those on the tour before again boarding a bus to tour the eastern part of the Qu'Appelle Valley. This second visit to the valley day trip will include touring the Crooked Lake Provincial Park and the Potash Interpretive Centre and Heritage Flour Mill in Esterhazy Saskatchewan as well as the excellent Melville Heritage Museum. This evening there will be a special last night of the tour supper included at one of Melville's most popular restaurants as this will be the final night in Melville but get your rest as there will be more touring tomorrow.

  • DAY 4 - SUNDAY Again awake to enjoy a full prairie breakfast and saving one of the most unique attractions for the group to visit this morning the grand Melville Town Hall and Opera House. Built in 1912 the building, with impressive dome, features offices council chambers, Romanesque windows and a grand auditorium once the site of luxurious balls and is still used for cultural events. After saying goodbye to the friendly folks and hospitality of Melville we will return to the rails and board the eastbound CANADIAN to take us back to Manitoba and Portage La Prairie or Winnipeg refreshed and rejuvenated.
