Rail Travel Tours along with Canada’s National History Society celebrates Canada Day in Churchill. Roundtrip from Winnipeg, Manitoba travelling to Churchill, Manitoba by rail those on this trip will experience the heritage of northern Manitoba, celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Parks Canada, Canada Day in Churchill along with great wildlife viewing. This 7 day 6 night tour features sleeping accommodation on the train and 2 nights in Churchill’s only all amenity hotel. The tour also includes heritage tours of the town and area, Beluga Whale Watching & Fort Prince of Wales Tour, Canada Day events; Parks Canada restored train station Interpretive Centre, Cape Merry Historic Site, Port of Churchill tour and additional heritage experiences. Package includes hotel stays, rail trips, transfers, heritage attractions and presentations, some meals, detailed tour information kit and more as follows.
WHAT THE TOUR INCLUDES:
- Day 1 - JUNE 28, 2011 Meet at Winnipeg's Union Station and tour of the Winnipeg Railway Museum before the mid-day scheduled departure from Winnipeg on VIA’s train to Churchill locally known as the HUDSON BAY. Those onboard will enjoy a Bon Voyage reception and the passing scenery of prairies and Riding Mountain National Park and overnight on the train.
- Day 2 - JUNE 29, 2011 This morning as the chef in the dining car prepares breakfast for the passengers you awake to different views of boreal forests continuing north through isolated communities only accessible by this train. Make sure you have your camera ready as the train passes bird sanctuaries and large lakes and vast forests along the way. There will also be heritage discussions and presentations onboard the train for the group. Overnight on the train.
- Day 3 - JUNE 30, 2011 This morning the view outside your window on the train has changed again as you overlook the Tundra as you get closer to the shores of Hudson Bay. Arrive in Churchill to be greeted and taken on a special tour of the town and Arctic Coast region (and your luggage will be transferred to your hotel) to learn the heritage of this unique northern community. This evening a special welcome dinner has been planned for the group to enjoy before those on the tour overnight at Churchill’s only all amenity hotel.
- DAY 4 - JULY 1, 2011 (Canada Day) After enjoying a full breakfast in the hotel A better part of the day will be dedicated to enjoying the Canada Day events in Manitoba’s most Northern town. There will also be time to visit the restored railway station and Parks Canada Interpretive Centre and the town complex. Enjoy Dinner again as part of the package and again overnight in Churchill.
- DAY 5 - JULY 2, 2011 This morning again enjoy breakfast in the hotel then take part in the Beluga Whale and Fort Prince of Whales Tour. In the afternoon the group will tour the region and shoreline of Hudson Bay to learn more about the areas history. There will also be a scheduled visit to the Eskimo Museum to view their outstanding collection of Inuit carvings and art personally given by the museum’s curator and assistant curator. There will be a farewell to Churchill supper this evening prior to boarding and travelling south on VIA’s train locally known as the HUDSON BAY in your reserved sleeping car accommodation. Overnight on the train.
- DAY 6 - JULY 3, 2011 Travel day on the southbound train. Make sure you have your camera ready as you cross high above the Nelson River. Overnight on the train
- DAY 7 - JULY 4, 2011 Awake this morning to the view outside your window of the fertile fields of the Red River valley for the scheduled train’s arrival back in Winnipeg.
